As part of the activities to commemorate the annual Vaccination Week in the Americas, a vaccine workshop for pre-school teachers was held earlier today, April 24h, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Mission Hall in Kingstown.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Cuthbert Knights stressed that vaccines are important to improve the quality of life as well as to prevent death. Knights noted that in recent times, diseases such as Measles are attempting to make a resurgence so it is imperative that the nation’s children are vaccinated.

Knights termed the pre-school educators as “nation builders”, who are raising the nation’s children, and therefore, it is their duty to be vaccinated and encourage vaccination as well.

Senior Nursing Officer in the Ministry of Health, Sis. Julie Douglas Russell said it is important to speak to the preschool teachers because of the vital role that they play in molding children and this assists in the overall development of the nation.

The 22nd annual Vaccination Week in the Americas commenced on Sunday, 21st April and will end on Saturday, April 27th. The theme for the annual vaccination week is “Vaccine as part of our active life.”
