World Bank Funded Solar Photo Voltaic Demonstration Project
Project Details
Objective: Demonstrate the use of commercial scale Photo Voltaic (PV) systems in SVG through a pilot project and disseminate the results throughout the Caribbean region
Solar PV Capacity: 200 kW
Location: Saint Vincent and Grenadines Community College Department of Technical and Vocational Education
Project Value: USD 600K
Business Model: Buy-All, Sell-All
Impact (Benefits)
Lower Electricity Prices: SVG Community College expected to save USD 525,000 over a 10 year period
Environmental Benefits: expected to reduce 3,090 MWh and approximately 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions over 10 years (equivalent to taking 460 cars off the road for 1 year)
Enhance SVG’s Energy Security & Energy Resilience
Lessons learned will be used to promote scaling-up
* Buy-all, sell-all is similar to Net Billing but the solar PV project exports all the electricity it produces to the grid (utility). The project site purchases all its electricity from the grid at the retail electricity rate but receives a credit for the solar PV power it exports to the grid (sold at a rate lower than the purchased retail rate to allow the utility to recover fixed costs associated with grid operation).
